We are happy to welcome Dr Silvia Mollicchi to the Lab as our first Data Justice Fellow! Silvia is a researcher at the Ada Lovelace Institute. As a Data Justice Lab Fellow, she is working on developing a typology of public administration algorithmic decision-making systems, and researching what the ideal conditions for the institution of a public register (or another form of registering mechanism) in the UK might be. This piece of research considers how public administration tools may be set up in a non-formalist way and offers structural and historical insight into the use of algorithmic systems that now feed into various functions of the state.
Silvia is the first in a group of fellows who will be working with the Lab in the coming months. We are looking forward to welcoming Ira Anjali, Carolina Onate and Tamika Blu in early 2021. You can find more information about them on our People page.
All of them will work on specific research projects. Originally planned as a 1-month stay at the Lab in Cardiff, the fellowships will now take place remotely.
