New Website Highlights Challenges of the Datafied Society

Today the Data Justice Lab launches the website https://www.datafiedsociety.org/. Published together with our report on Civic Participation in the Datafied Society, the site explores different ways in which the public can raise their voice and have a say in decisions about the use of data systems. Starting from the problem of the obscurity in the implementation of data systems and automated decision-making, and the harms that may emerge as a result, the site provides several examples for how people have intervened into the governance of data, have affected the roll-out of data systems, and have created alternative models and infrastructures.

The website summarises core arguments of the wider report and introduces some of the strategies and practices which the report investigates in more depth. It was created together with the design team behind the website https://automating.nyc/.
