We are getting around quite a bit to talk about data justice and the work of the Lab. Here are our latest talks and presentations:
10-11 December, 2020: Emiliano Treré gave a keynote for the Students of English Association Symposium entitled “Taming the Sublime: The Ambivalent Political Implications of Technological Visions”
10 December, 2020: Arne Hintz gave a presentation on “Citizen Juries on AI: Participatory Policy for the Datafied Society” at a workshop on Artifcial intelligence and civil society participation in policy-making processes, hosted by the democracies.ai project at University of Geneva.
26-27 November, 2020: Emiliano Treré took part in the plenary of the yearly conference of the Mexican association of communication researchers (AMIC) called “Life across screens: dialogues on methodology for the study of digital culture”
25 November, 2020: Arne Hintz delivered an online guest lecture at University of Calgary, Canada, on “Digital Citizenship in the Age of Automation”.
17 October, 2020: Treré took part in the roundtable discussion “Mobilizing Online: Social Movements and Digital Activism”, as part of the ‘Mobilising the Planet Digitally’ Event.
13 October, 2020: Fieke Jansen participated in a webinar on ‘Criminal justice by algorithm: predictive policing’ hosted by Fair Trials.
6 October, 2020: Arne Hintz was the first speaker in a new seminar series by the Centre for the Study of Democracy at Westminster University, discussing the changing role of citizenship and participation in the datafied society.
5 October, 2020: Lina Dencik gave a talk at Monash University, Australia, in conversation with Mark Andrejevic, on the Datafied Welfare State.
29-30 September: As part of Defend Digital Me’s State of Data 2020 event, Joanna Redden took part in an online discussion with Dr Godfred Boahen (British Association of Social Workers) on AI, Algorithms and Analytics in Public Services, chaired by Ivana Bartoletti (Co-Founder Women Leading in AI). Redden also gave a presentation on “Datafied Public Services: Politics and Policy” for this event. Click the links to watch both recordings.
21-25 September 2020: Treré was also Visiting Professor for the MA in Artistic Production at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where he delivered a 9-hour course on his book Hybrid Media Activism.

25 August 2020: Emiliano Treré participated in the international debate ‘Perspectivas posteriores a la pandemia: los retos del Sur Global en la configuración geopolítica global de Internet’, organised by the School of Internet Governance in Brazil.
Festival for Media Democracy 17 June, 2020: Lina Dencik participated in the online festival to discuss the role of platforms in society. The panel discussion is available here.
